General Information

IOIO Nominations

Best Fold

The most outstanding models in each task are awarded special medals.

Individual Competition

This is the main part of the Olympiad. Participants earn points for each completed task. The total score determines the ranking position.

Team Competition

All participants from the same country are considered a team. The total number of medals won by the team for best folds determines the team's ranking.

Task Composition

1). In the Olympiad task collection, you will find 6-8 diagrams ranging from simple to extremely complex.

2). Pattern assemblies are always included. These may be CPs of regular models, as well as tessellations or corrugations.

3). Traditionally, the Olympiad includes a modular construction, usually a kusudama.

4). The Olympiad tasks always include at least one model designed using corrugation principles (either a diagram or a pattern).

5). Several paper tessellations are always part of IOIO tasks. They might be challenging to fold, but they are always considered the gems of the Olympiad.

Judging Panel

The Olympiad does not have a permanent jury. Typically, the judging panel includes former competition winners or authors of models selected for the tasks. This usually involves 5-6 masters who ensure the most objective results are achieved.

Judges in various years have included:

Andrey Ermakov (Russia)
Dzmitry Lysiuk (Republic of Belarus)
Peter Stein (Germany)
Andrey Lukyanov (Russia)
Hubert Villeneuve (Canada)
Yaroslav Terehov (Russia)
Jared Needle (USA)
...

11th International Origami Olympiad.

Details about the number of tasks, their complexity, as well as paper selection recommendations will be published in this section in a timely manner. Participants' works will be evaluated by a competent jury consisting of renowned origami masters and experts in the field. The full composition of the judging panel will be announced closer to the Olympiad date.
